![]() This game gives you the illusion that it allows a similiar ENJOYABLE experience, but then pulsl the rug from under you and decides that your characters are unplayable now, have fun grinding up some more. ![]() And even in a game that encourages you to keep re-using characters, it still pretty much forces you to have at least 2 different squads. X-COM you become attached to your soliders, especially because death is a very real and common thing, those that survive become badasses, they become likeable, and when they die, it impacts you more than just losing a powerful asset. To have the game just decide I can't use that character anymore just because it wants to force me to throw away characters like they are worthless, is not FUN, it's annoying, it's a time waster, and it doesn't make me want to play. If a bad-ass crusader is the sole surviving member of one of my parties that ventured in to the dark depths of hell and comes out, not a raving madman, but a shining hero, and he continues to kick ass constantly, staying above the water, I want to keep him for as long as possible, because it makes me happy, it's cool to see such a guy in game where characters die constantly, survive every ordeal. What I am not fine with, is the game telling me im not allowed to play how I want. It's a rouge-like game, people die, im fine with that. I have watched plenty of gameplay, I have watched people use characters like they are pawns, throwing them away when they become less useful than others, and I have seen people play conservative trying to save all they can and buffiong their guys as much as possible. But there's 14 classes (soon to be 15) which is pretty close to the total number of heroes you need to complete the game, so there's a decent amount of variety to be had along the way. If you wanted to have a set party and use it 100% of the time this was never going to be the game for you.
